How a logic-grid puzzle works
Every maker has exactly one pickup time and one glaze. Every time and glaze is used once. Your job is to combine the clues until each maker has a complete set of matches. You do not need outside knowledge about pottery; everything needed is in the clues.
- Start with a direct match. The first clue says Mira collected at 4:00 PM. Mark that match with O and the other times in Mira’s row with X.
- Carry matches across categories. The 4:00 PM pickup has the Amber Speckle glaze. Mira therefore has Amber Speckle, and no other maker can have it.
- Use order carefully. “Immediately before” means the next listed slot, not simply some earlier time. The 3:00 PM pickup comes immediately before Felix, so Felix must be at 3:20 PM.
- Combine two clues. Felix comes immediately before Cloud White. Once Felix’s time is known, Cloud White must belong to the 3:40 PM pickup.
- Check every clue. Before calling the puzzle solved, confirm that each clue fits and that every value appears exactly once.
Show the sample’s complete answer and reasoning
Mira has the last pickup and Amber Speckle. Felix is at 3:20 PM, followed by Cloud White at 3:40 PM. Owen is adjacent to the 3:20 PM slot, so he could be at 3:00 or 3:40. But Owen has River Blue, which rules out the Cloud White slot. He must be at 3:00 PM. That leaves Etta at 3:40 PM with Cloud White, and Moss Green for Felix.
| Maker | Pickup | Glaze |
|---|---|---|
| Etta | 3:40 PM | Cloud White |
| Felix | 3:20 PM | Moss Green |
| Mira | 4:00 PM | Amber Speckle |
| Owen | 3:00 PM | River Blue |
Printing and solving tips
The sample is laid out for US Letter paper. On A4, choose “fit to printable area” and check the print preview. Use a pencil so you can revise marks without making the grid hard to read. Cover the answer section while solving, or fold it behind the sheet.
If you get stuck, revisit a clue that joins two categories, such as a time and a glaze. A clue that seems unhelpful at first may become decisive after another match is known. Distinguish a confirmed match from a guess; guessing too early can make later clues appear contradictory.
